Kassie has come in determined since day one; putting everything she has in her every time she steps through the doors. Her smile and determination has become contagious within the box…here is a little more about our favorite ginger fitter!
What is your athletic background?
Started playing softball and soccer really young, and played both competitively through high school (and recreationally as an adult).
What do you do for a living?
I am a middle school science teacher at an all boys private school.
How long have you been CrossFitting?
Roughly 3.5 months (first class was 7/25/16).
Have you trained before? If so, what are the differences you like about CrossFit than your past training?
In the past, I trained at home with workout videos, running apps, or in a traditional gym setting (like Club Fitness). I would always sell myself short and wouldn’t push myself. Here, at CrossFit North County, I have surprised myself by what I can do thanks to the programing, coaching, and encouragement from other athletes!
Back squats and box jumps are my favorite movements.
The Hero WOD we did for Officer Snyder is my favorite WOD thus far.
Favorite CrossFit moment:
I was so excited the first time I was able to Rx a WOD! It was an AMRAP with 35lb KB swings and box jumps.
What is one of your main goals for CrossFit?
One of my main goals for CrossFit is to have more confidence and a positive body image so I can be a great example for my daughters.
What do you do outside of the box that is going to help your performance inside the box?
We hike as a family. I also sometimes run at the track near my house (mostly interval training). I *need* to start running longer distances again and doing core accessory work at home more diligently.
What do you enjoy on your leisure time?
I’m a crafter; I enjoy crocheting, sewing, and really anything on pinterest!
What advice would you give a new CrossFitter?
Don’t cherry pick the workouts! If you see the programing has a move you struggle with, go anyway. You’ll never get better at it if you don’t practice it!
Any final thoughts on CrossFit?
Thank you so much for all of the support, from EVERYBODY! The nutrition advice and scaling tips from coaches, the encouragement from athletes … and even helping with my kids when I have to haul them to the box with me. Seriously, I don’t know how I would’ve gotten my workouts done in October with David out of town if people weren’t so helpful with the girls!
