Meet Julie! An avid 5:15amer, who brings nothing but positivity and support for her fellow RISE AND GRINDERS! She puts everything thing into her workouts and is often found running some extra down and backs until everyone is finished. Here’s a little more on our AOTM for January…
What is your athletic background?
I grew up playing a variety of competitive sports including select soccer and select softball. In High School I played volleyball, basketball, soccer, and softball. I went on to major in Physical Education so sports and fitness have always played a huge roll in my life.
What do you do for a living?
I am currently a P.E. Teacher in a Kindergarten- Eighth Grade, Special Education Building. I see every kid every day for 30 minutes. I also coach High School Soccer in the Spring.
How long have you been CrossFitting?
Crossfit North County is my third bout of CrossFitting. I first tried it in 2012 in Spirit Lake, Iowa (that’s when I fell in love) and then I was a member at a Box in Brentwood in 2014. I took a break for a bit and I have now been with Crossfit North County since September.
Have you trained before? If so, what are the differences you like about CrossFit than your past training?
Compared to other training, I’d say Crossfit gives me a much deeper feeling of self-confidence and just the overall empowering feeling of being strong. Compared to personal trainers or fitness instructors, Crossfit coaches (especially those at Crossfit NOCO) just seem more invested in your growth, health, and overall well-being. I have to say though that the competitiveness of Crossfit, compared to other forms of training, is what always keeps me coming back for more.
Easy… the Snatch!
I can’t say I have a favorite WOD. I love to hate them all, however, anything without burpees automatically jumps up in my ranks!
Favorite CrossFit moment:
I don’t have ONE favorite Crossfit moment. I have multiple favorite Crossfit moments. Everytime I reach a new PR, it automatically (for a short period of time) takes over as my new favorite moment.
What is one of your main goals for CrossFit?
At this point my main Crossfit goal would be being able to do just one, unassisted pull-up!
What do you do outside of the box that is going to help your performance inside the box?
I try to stay on top of my nutrition/what I’m putting in my body (minus the occasional, sanity- saving, pre-planned cheats). You can’t out work a bad diet, and a bad diet can undo your work in the box!
What do you enjoy on your leisure time?
On my leisure time, I enjoy relaxing! I have quite a busy schedule at times, hence why I go to 5:15am classes, so I’m elated when I can finally have a weekend without plans just to stay home with my boyfriend and fur-babies.
What advice would you give a new CrossFitter?
Don’t compare yourself to others; they are at a different point in their fitness journey than you are at this time. Never give up. You will get there, you will be stronger than you ever imagined, and you will have a love/hate relationship with the Crossfit process, which will inevitably take you to new heights.
Any final thoughts on CrossFit?
Just try it and commit to becoming a better you!
More specifically commit to Crossfit North County. I have been a member in three different Crossfit Boxes at this point, and the feeling of community at Crossfit NOCO is like none other!
